A List of Must Read Books for You!
The best way to de-stress, for me, on those ‘not-so-good-days’, is to simply curl up with a good book. I feel that reading transports you to a different world, away from your daily humdrum and stress. Reading books, which had seen a decline in the past, has again become popular thanks to awesome reading devices like Kindle, great books and easy access.
Below are 7 great titles that are my pick of must read books and are easily available on Amazon in hardcover or eBook format.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
The book starts as a usual murder mystery but then jolts you out of your wits with twists and turns in the plot. An amazing read for those of you who like a good psychological thriller. The book was an instant hit and also has a movie with the same name. I suggest you read the book first and then watch the movie though in this case, the movie is as good as the book! If you like this book, you can also read Gillian Flynn’s other, darker, titles- ‘Sharp Objects’ and ‘Dark Places’.
Harry Hole Series by Jo Nesbo
Norwegian writers churn out some of the best books available in the market and Jo Nesbo is one of the best authors for Thrillers that I have ever come across. Jo Nesbo’s Harry Hole series is unputdownable, especially ‘The Snowman’ and ‘The Devil’s Star’. The books trace the life of Norwegian Inspector Harry Hole who solves serial murder mysteries alongside fighting his own demons. A must read for all Thriller lovers out there!
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
There are times when you don’t know where you are heading in life and everything seems to be going against you. For those days, I recommend reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. The book does not preach or provide self-help tips. It’s a story about a shepherd and how he follows his dreams to finally achieve what he wants. The language is simple and the book arouses a feeling of faith and confidence. I have gone back to the book multiple times and each time I kept it down, I was charged with renewed confidence and faith in destiny.
The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult
There are many books on the Holocaust and its survivors but this one makes you cry, feel angry and smile at the same time! An engaging book which tells the story of a young girl and a Nazi Soldier who have an interconnected past. If a good engaging story is what you are looking for, do pick up a copy of The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult.
Before I Go to Sleep by SJ Watson
This book reads like a movie and has all the right elements to make for an amazing screenplay. It’s the story of a woman who has short-term memory loss. Each day for her is like a new beginning, but nothing is how it seems to be. She has flashes from her past and she sees people whom she doesn’t know but feels connected to. Read the book to find out what happens. It’s an enthralling fast-paced book that is a must read!
Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri
This is a book comprising of short stories from all walks of life. All the stories touch a chord as the author beautifully blends daily lives with intriguing stories. The book makes for a great afternoon read. ‘Namesake’ is another beautiful book by Jhumpa Lahiri.
Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling
If you are one of those people who think Harry Potter Books are for kids, then my friend, you are greatly mistaken. It’s true that The Harry Potter Series can be single-handedly credited for making kids read again but they make an amazing read for adults as well. I sometimes feel that the Harry Potter books are magical as you can’t seem to put them down! Its the story of Harry, an orphaned boy, who discovers that he is a wizard on his 11th birthday. The adventures of Harry and his two friends- Ron and Hermione make a fantastic read. The books teach us about courage, friendship, love and above all tell us that “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light”- Albus Dumbledore.
These then, are 7 Must Read Books that would qualify to be on anybody’s list! All these titles are available on Amazon and belong to diverse genres such as Thriller, Fantasy, Drama, and History. Do grab your copies of the books and dive into the world of murder mysteries, magic, romance and more!
